This impressive tract of land has over 3 miles of frontage on the Catawba River. This land will become part of the Heritage Preserve and will managed for total public use. This is an opportunity to preserve a rare expanse of undeveloped riverfront with development encroaching from both Columbia and Charlotte. The area is home to several bald eagle nests. There are also archeological and historical reasons for protecting this land. On nearby, Mount Dearborn Island, there rests the stone foundations of one of the nation's first arsenals built during the Revolutionary War.
A map for the McDowell Creek Tract has been provided in Google Map format.
